Anyone regret getting the base Taycan? Thinking about the 4S

How fast is the base Taycan? The cost jump to the 4S seems huge, but do you really miss out on a lot of power with the base? I’m not planning on racing it, but I like knowing the power is there if I need it.

Anyone here get the base model and regret it?

Think of it this way: test drive the base model first. Ask yourself, ‘Does this feel powerful enough for me?’ If the answer is ‘yes,’ then you’re done. But if you’re unsure, you’ll probably end up wanting the 4S. Go test that next and see how you feel.

No regrets on the base model at all. It handles like a dream, and I never feel like it lacks power for everyday driving.

If you’re going to get a Porsche, I think the S is the minimum. You might regret not going for it. I don’t think you need to go beyond the GTS for a daily driver though.

I went with the 4S mainly for the all-wheel drive compared to the rear-wheel drive of the base.

I just don’t believe in settling for anything in life.

Exactly! Life’s too short to drive a car you don’t fully enjoy. How often do you buy a new car? Might as well go all out.

The base has all the power you’ll need for everyday driving. If you’re planning to race, though, you might want to look at a different car altogether.

For daily use, the base model is more than enough and might even be overkill depending on what you’re expecting. Plus, you’ll probably get the best range out of it. And yes, you can even do donuts in it if you’re into that kind of thing.

@Torrance
I daily drive a 4S and sometimes feel like I need more power. I can’t imagine how much slower the base would feel. And donuts? Who’s doing that in their car anyway, lol.

I’ve had my 4S for a few months now, and I’m already itching for the Turbo S.

If all you care about is 0-60 times, you might as well get a Tesla. Porsches are more than just acceleration; they’re built for handling. That’s why most 911s are still made in rear-wheel drive.

I can’t speak for the 2025 model, but the earlier base versions felt slow to me.

You could always get the base model and then do a software tune to make it faster. Check out Redshift for tuning options.

Doesn’t tuning void the warranty though?

You can get an extra ECU and swap it in when needed, so it won’t mess with your warranty.

The base is pretty slow, honestly. Once you’ve driven a car that does 0-60 in under 4 seconds, anything slower feels like a snail.

Here are some numbers to put it in perspective:

  • Taycan base: 4.5s with Launch Control
  • Taycan 4S: 3.5s with Launch Control
  • Taycan Turbo: 2.5s with Launch Control
  • BMW 430i: 5.5s
  • Mercedes AMG E63: 3.0s

For most people, the base Taycan is more than enough speed and it still feels like a luxury sedan.

I went with the 4 Cross Turismo because it felt like a significant upgrade over the base, without a huge jump in price. But if I had gone with the sedan, I probably would’ve picked the S model.

I ended up doing the same. The 4CT had all the features I wanted, and I’ve been really happy with it.
