Anyone know how to turn off that artificial engine noise in the car?

I’ve tried adjusting the settings to lower the artificial acceleration sound in my car. Set it to custom, turned the volume to zero, but there’s still a steady hum that stops suddenly when the car stops. It’s really noticeable when I’m trying to enjoy some classical music.

Does anyone have tips for turning off this artificial engine noise completely?

That hum you’re hearing is likely the exterior noise required by law for pedestrian safety.

Yeah, it’s required by law, but some brands seem to avoid it.

Actually, they’ve started including it. You might just be seeing older models around.

They’ve been using that sound since at least 2020, maybe earlier. They position the speakers carefully so the driver barely hears it unless the windows are down.

Are you sure it’s not the pedestrian noise that comes on at low speeds?

It could be the pedestrian hum, which is hard-coded for safety. Try checking if it stops around 20kph.

You can test this by putting the car in park, which should stop it.

It’s required by law. The car has to make noise at low speeds so people on foot or bikes can hear it.

You can disable Active Sound Design entirely in Sound Settings. Look for the option with the biggest change to smallest change and turn it off.

Maybe it’s the external warning noise for pedestrians. I’m just not sure how effective it is since it seems too quiet to notice.

@Ocean
It’s definitely louder outside. Have a friend drive past you slowly in a quiet spot.

I’ve tried that with my wife driving, but I still think it’s too subtle.

So it’s somehow both too loud and too quiet?

At least it’s not a high-pitched sound like on some other cars .

@Ocean
So you hear it through soundproofing in the car, but think people outside wouldn’t?

Inside, there’s no background noise. Outside, with open spaces and other sounds, it’s less noticeable.

You could pull the fuse, but that also shuts off the reverse sound and the charging start alert. It only runs at low speeds, for pedestrian safety.

Try unchecking the setting entirely. That should disable it.

It’s only active at low speeds. My issue is a certain frequency noise I get when accelerating around 105 km/h. Anyone else?
