I’m trying to pick a second EV6 and I’ve found a few interesting options. Hoping to use the used car tax credit:
2022 GT-Line with 59k miles, certified pre-owned.
2023 Wind with tech package, 25k miles, certified.
2022 Wind with tech package, 25k miles, not certified.
For the third option, dealer fees push the price over $25k and they won’t lower it. The second option will technically qualify for the credit in a week, but the dealer isn’t sure about the process or if they’ll help with it.
All have clean carfaxes and are single-owner cars. Prices are about the same, just under $25k.

Doesn’t the car need to be at least 2 years old to qualify? The 2023 might not work.
Yeah, the 2023 will qualify starting January 1st.
What if they change the policy for next year? Like, if it only applies for all of 2025 or something, would that mess it up? I’m wondering about that myself.

It’s based on when you buy it, so if you get it at the point of sale, it should already be locked in.
Exactly. Once you get it at the point of sale, it’s very hard for them to reverse it later. If anything, it would be the dealership’s issue, not yours.
Have you checked Carvana? They might have some options under $25k.
I think you should wait and go for #2 after the new year. The rebate should apply instantly at the point of sale, so you won’t need to worry about changes later. Plus, with an EV, certified pre-owned gives you more peace of mind.

Is the used rebate always point of sale though?
Not always. It depends on the dealership. They can choose to do it at the point of sale, give you a receipt for your taxes, or not bother with it at all. It’s up to them.
@Kasey
You’ll still need to file the form with your taxes and meet income requirements. Even if you get it at the point of sale, you’ll have to pay it back if you don’t qualify. If the administration changes anything, it could be risky to wait, but it’s unlikely they’d reverse credits already claimed.

Are those numbers prices or mileage? Haha.
They’re all just under $25k, like $24k.
Got it. I love my Wind with the tech package. I don’t see why someone would choose an uncertified car over a certified one though. I didn’t get any tax credits when I bought mine.
