2024 BMW iX has no air suspension Beware!

I recently bought a 2024 iX xDrive50 and regret not researching the suspension more thoroughly. I watched many online reviews that said the Air Suspension comes standard, so I didn’t check if my 2024 model had it.

Now that it is cold, the standard spring suspension makes the ride feel like a bumpy go-kart, and it makes my wife nauseous. Coming from the Audi E-Tron, the difference is huge. I feel stuck with this until my lease ends in three years. Hopefully, the suspension will feel softer when it gets warmer.

For anyone considering the 2024 model, I recommend spending the extra $1k for the air suspension. It would have been an obvious choice for me if I had known.

My 2024 iX 50 has been with me for about a month. It didn’t arrive with air, which saddened me because the Escalade I was leaving did. There have been no problems with the suspension after about 2000 miles. It’s in the 30s and 40s here. 21" wheels as well, at factory pressure. I’m overjoyed with the ride.

As someone who has extensively researched the 2024 BMW iX, I want to caution potential buyers about the lack of available air suspension on many models. While the air suspension is an optional feature, many dealers are stocking iX models without it to meet demand. Without the air suspension, the ride quality can be noticeably harsher, especially on rougher roads. Owners have reported feeling more road imperfections and increased cabin noise compared to iX models equipped with the air suspension. This can be a significant drawback, as the smooth, comfortable ride is a key selling point of the iX. If ride quality is a priority, I would strongly recommend seeking out an iX with the air suspension option, even if it means waiting or paying a slightly higher price. The difference in driving experience is substantial and worth the investment for those who value a luxury, cloud-like ride.

I understand your frustration with the ride quality of your iX without air suspension. It seems like a significant oversight on BMW’s part not to include it as standard equipment.

Potential Solutions:

While it might not be ideal, here are some potential solutions to consider:

  1. Tire Upgrade: Exploring different tire options might improve ride comfort. Consider tires with a softer compound or a slightly larger profile.
  2. Aftermarket Suspension Upgrades: If you’re comfortable with modifications, you might explore aftermarket suspension kits designed to improve ride quality. However, this can be costly and may void your warranty.
  3. Dealer Feedback: Share your experience with BMW customer service and provide detailed feedback about the ride quality. While it might not lead to an immediate solution, it can help influence future models.
